you mean oem quality. dealerships regularly mark up products by an insane amount. there is no need to only buy from a dealership when equal AND superior quality products exist at equal to lower cost

Id rather buy 2 wix reg filters than the XP filter and change it out at 2500miles or whatever oil interval you are going. I trust that way more than 1 filter for 5000 miles.

Good story about fram filters...I ran them on my Lincoln LS v8 years ago and in traffic the low oil psi light would come on and then go off once I started driving again. Changed to a wix and the problem went away. Any oil filter that can effect oil psi like that isnt worth putting on any engine. Ive seen a lot of blown engines with fram filters on them, Ill never touch one unless its to throw.

Every once in a while I figure it's good to check in and see how this thread is doing. Keep in mind and take a step back, as I type, we're talking about $6.77. I get that this went up, I didn't pay that much for the WIX XPs that I have in the basement, and they were no tax back then as it was pre Wayfair when I ordered 12. this thread kind of reminds me of when I was in my 20's and the doctor's copay was $10 with a $100 deductible. Because of that, I didn't get a physical exam and avoided going to the doctor no matter what (I made a mistake the physical is no charge as it's preventative). But what I mean was for the thought of $10, I avoided seeing the doctor. When I tore my knee playing hockey (already working), I was devastated that I had to pay $100 copay for the surgery--this was the same as 10 doctor's visits' copays. I think some of you are caught in similar thinking when it comes to the oil filter. Truth be told nothing is special about the 3UZ you can likely do the $18 oil change in West Philly where they slap on a "Mighty" filter that cost them 39 cents, and it will do the job for 5,000 or 10,000 miles even with the bulk oil they use.

Three years ago the HRA was running about $130 per dr's visit, to contrast how things have changed. But I am older now (doesn't mean I wasn't ecstatic that my co. went back to copays 2 years ago, because my 5 y.o. does go to the dr).

Maybe a good way to look at it is let's round up to $7 per filter. Yes, the LS430 didn't even come with synthetic motor oil from the factory, yet people use it. People are all different. I think my car "deserves" a $7 oil filter, and I get that I am wasting at least $3 times 2 or $6/year. But I am comfortable about it and my conscience doesn't bother me.

For me, it's simpler. For the filter, I prefer made in USA. That's WIX. Toyota OE is I think Thailand. If it were Japan and $3? Then I would consider it. my .02
