Navigation hatred
I cannot seem to stop my LS430 from always defaulting back to the navigation screen. I have read the thread about turning off the Navigation screen auto-transition. but mine does not seem to work. I periodically get a "beep" from it and whatever screen I was on goes back to the useless prehistoric navigation screen. I wish I could just disable navigation altogether. I might try removing the DVD to just disable it.

I did not even know that could be "turned off" (but may not be available on an '01)…. Have to look.....

I test-drove an LS600hL a few years ago, which was 10ish years newer than my 02 LS430, and the nav screen on the LS600hL was pretty much identical to mine. Even harder to use, since it is less sensitive to touch than my screen.
My screen looks and works great and plays 720p videos from my iPod (via YouTube/Safari/downloaded music videos/TV shows) perfectly fine.

That setting should do it.
The navigation system on the 01-03 and 04-06 LS430 was awful. Even when the cars were new it was still terrible. What’s funny is the system never really changed on newer Lexus until the Gen 10 navigation system found on some 2018+ cars. The Gen 9 system wasn’t too bad but the navigation layout was similar to the older cars.

My 2002 has the option to disable the screen change, but it looks different than the OP. So if the option is enabled, and I set the screen to the audio or climate controls, it stays there and doesn't switch back to navigation. However, upon car bootup, it will go to navigation first (unless the DVD has been ejected, in which case it'll go to a DVD Not Found type of screen).
