Clean your sunroof drains!
I just experienced several major electrical issues when water backed up in the sunroof drain, went down the headliner, and into rear of the dash. It caused the rear trunk to open during a storm and it shorted out a rear panel on the left side after it flooded because the drain was clogged in the trunk area. (make sure that is open, too.) Over $1,000 repair.
Make this a once a year maintenance task.

Would you recommend doing something like this to clear out the drains?

one thing to remember is water must pass the seals to reach the drains. So the assumption is seals are not good, if drains are not good, problem. It's like saying your suspenders snapped, and your belt broke too. At this point you better keep an eye on your woman and your dog.
Very common on 4th gen Maximas, the drain goes into a metal Y with the power antenna. That breaks and water pools in the trunk. Why even in Calif you can see some with rusted out rear right 1/4s
