Those pesky UL Air Struts.. Updated what to do about it thread
#16
I have 2000 year model UCF31 Celsior with only ~55tkm and I have some problem in rear air struts because in yearly inspection strut testing device gives no values at all. But when the inspector did a test drive he said everything seemed to be in order. Inspector think that in the near future I should replace air struts because there is small leak in rear struts.
After exploring the different options I think BC racing coils + Stanceparts complete 4-cup air lift kit could be a good option for me. The price would be approx 2200e ($2455) if I install it myself.

I just bought a fantastic UL with a small problem... BAD AIR STRUT! After reading this forum and the 10+ outdated threads with links that did not work I wanted to start a new one. I called Lexus of Tucson and of course its $500 labor and $1800 for the air strut. I do not know about you but I would rather spend that money elsewhere in life...... Ok so here we go!
Recap on other threads:
- Convert to springs! Lose out on the fantastic features on a car that was never designed to have springs! YES SPRINGS!! FOR THE WIN! Unplug that suspension fuse and BAM!! WIN!!!

Of the nearly 160,000 LS 430s which were sold in the US, most did not come with air struts.... If someone wants to spend more to replace their air system than the market value of their car, I guess that is their business. If someone else wants to find a more reasonable cost alternative, and convert to a system most of the LS 430s came with originally anyway in order to get more life from their LS 430, isn't it their business too...? How are those converting from an air to a non-air system doing something the car was not designed for?
For the $280 I spent on a JDM strut it was an easier swap than springs. The suspension does not need to come apart without any ball joints pulled. I literally just unbolted four bolts and jacked up the suspension to maneuver it in and out. The air line release was the hardest part the good news is the old shock had a piece so I could practice. If someone feels that a $70,000.00 car when new is better on janky a$$ eBay springs or a lower model setup that is fine. I personally want the experience of the high quality air ride suspension that is part of owning this level of car. Everyone can make choices good or bad towards the end goal desired. This thread is geared towards those who want to keep the cars going with air not shocks. For two hours and $280 I am just fine with having a good working air ride setup.
