Nope just fitted the 6.5 Polk speakers in and left everything else alone .
Fitted the Polk's as they came up new a long way away in the middle of nowhere and I could have them straight away .
It was a two hour drive to get them .
That's why I got them so cheap and or they were still there !!
The drive suited me as my daughter can get her driving hours up so she can sit her license .
Hipatchy I would get some JBL GTO-609c's from Amazon as they are 3 ohm speakers and very very good .
That's what's going in my rear doors now that I know they are 6.5" .

Thanks, good to know.
I have a double din kenwood headunit and it does not support 2 ohm so I think I will order a set of the polk db6502 since the 6501 is discontinued.
Front speakers are blown, rears are on the way and the sub doesn't work so I have a lot of work ahead of me.

So the fronts are components with a separate tweeter, and the rears are coaxial, right?
I'm thinking of doing db6501 in the front and db651 in the rear.
Also, I popped off the tweeter grill on the dash just to take a look, and the top of the tweeter is visible (well, its covered with a fabric dust cover so not totally visible). I couldn't see any way to easily remove or replace it from there, so looks like it's best to just stay with the factory tweeter unless you want to try and pull the dash

Arh I was not aware the rears be co-ax so I will just fit some non tweeter JBL two ways in there .
I had been told that to do the tweeters in the dash meant removal ???
I not know personally .
Thanks for that .
I'll check and see what the Polk two ways are worth on the Az .

So wait, can I just get 4 of those Polk speakers and replace the blown ones in my ML system? Or will that blow the stupid proprietary amps? Also, since we are replacing old speakers with new stuff, what about the stupid sub with the stupid foam that is all gone? I was thinking about replacing the surround with a more durable butyl rubber surround so it would last more than 15 minutes before falling apart.

You would need 8 ohm for the ml replacements. Lots of threads on replacing and fixing the sub if you do a quick search

Thank you!

Yeah, I'm on my 3rd LS 430 (love them) and unlike many I've read posting here, I'm fine with the quality of the sound in my ML system. I wish it has a little more "oomph" but for an OEM system, it's fine. The only weakness is the foam surrounds on all the speakers. I know they probably wanted "fast" cone movement for more accurate drum hits, etc (I'm a crazy, obsessed audiophile in the house...so keep that in mind) but whoever made that decision obviously didn't think the owners would keep them around for more than three years.

If I go though all the trouble of removing the sub, I'm replacing that surround with rubber... maybe it won't be as accurate or whatever, but I don't care.

I seem to remember reading that the impedance of the sub was 12 ohms or some other stupid "unobtanium" number. Very Bose-like shenanigans. Also I think the door speakers were maybe 6 ohms or something... I am not really sure because I read this stuff a long time ago and I replaced my '05 with an '06 before I had time to work on it.

Anyway... if I ever actually replace the surround on the sub, I will report back on how the rubber surround works, if at all.

For 8ohm someone on here was talking about this brand, not sure how good they are or fit:
