All business LS
I’m new around here, but not to Lexus. I’ve got a 2008 LX570 built for adventures in the Pacific Northwest.
It’s an absolute beast. Read all about it here if you’re curious.
Up until this month it was also my daily driver back and forth to my office in Seattle. However as I’ve added armor and mud terrains and other mods, it’s gotten more and more inconvenient. And not to mention, 10mpg city adds up.
This month I picked up an 05 with 103k miles from a local used car lot.
It’s a two owner car and always dealer serviced. Mechanically the car is immaculate.
The good stuff:
Im working my way down the list of common LS issues:
Despite these little annoyances I’m totally content with the car. It’s unbelievably well put together.
Looking forward to learning more as I go.

The good stuff:
- TB service, transmission drain and fill, valve cover gaskets, plugs, control arm bushings, battery and brakes all new
- no blown speakers
- no codes or warning lights of any kind
Im working my way down the list of common LS issues:
- hood and trunk struts were clapped out (replaced)
- mirror switch has failed (replaced)
- passenger side lock is inoperable
- tilt steering works but telescoping does not
- tail lights are starting to flicker
Despite these little annoyances I’m totally content with the car. It’s unbelievably well put together.
Looking forward to learning more as I go.

I was not aware that the tails eventually flicker.....my experience with LED on other cars is that they do dim over a decade, though.

There is a reason why I was on a YouTube (Otramm) channel just yesterday, watching a shop that specializes in Land Cruiser hahahahahahaha
I even like the 2000 model, just that he was pointing out things to look for on one that old....570 would be a dream....
edit: this is the shop

lock switch
Hi, sounds like you have two great cars now! Just curious, you said on the LS that you replaced the mirror switch? Is that the switch that operates the sideview mirrrors? If so, where did you find the part and how hard was it to replace? Thanks!

I replaced the dashboard switch. Took maybe 5 minutes—it just pries out. Part number 84870-50310, new switch was ~ $215.

I’ve been babying my driver side window regulator as it’s been very slow going down. I assumed it was slowly dying.
Upon closer inspection it’s not the regulator/motor at all-the window felt was getting caught and rolling down with the window. Here’s a video:
I cleaned the window side of the felt and it was disgusting with dirt and pine needles (I live in the PNW). I cleaned as best as I could and treated the rubber with 303 rubber conditioner.
After that the window works perfectly. Hoping that I don’t need a motor/regulator any time soon.
