Hello all. I am new to the site and need help with my problem. I have a 2004 Lexus LS430 with 73,000 miles that the engine stopped in the middle of the road after taking a right hand turn. The engine stopped at idle several times before but it started after that. This time won't start at all. It cranks, it wants to star but it doesn't. I am afraid it is the fuel pump because it has no codes of any kind. I noticed that Lexus has a recall for my model in 2004 for 14,259 vehicles but since I am the second owner and 16 years have passed, I don't know if they will still replace my fuel pump. The problem started many months ago where the idle was getting worse and worse and culminating with the engine stalled that would not start again. Any help would be great. Thank you.

You can call and see but they are still going to have to diagnosis the fuel pump. You might want to diagnosis it yourself, first starting with the fuel pressure which will either confirm that the pump is dead, or show you that you have another issue.

Keep in mind you do not know what the cause is. It is usually better to only describe your symptoms to a repair facility, and not say what you think may be the cause. Or, you may find you will be charged for a repair you do not need. (e.g. "my car does this and won't start and I think it is the fuel pump" ... mechanic finds a loose wire, tightens it, then the facility says "yes, you were right it was the fuel pump, $1500 please" versus "my car does this and won't start" ... mechanic finds a loose wire, tightens it, then the facility says "it was a loose wire, $20 please" ... in the first instance you told the facility you are ready to pay for a fuel pump, while in the second instance you did not say....)

If your LS430 was recalled, you may check at https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/ for the service history of your vehicle. (If you do not have an account, you may create one there and see the car's service history free.) If your car was recalled for the fuel pump but the service was never done, arrange with your friendly neighborhood Lexus dealer to have this recall service done. Car recalls do not expire. (The NHSTA says recalls are enforceable for reasonable periods. Recalls end if the manufacturer goes out of business or if recall parts are no longer made,)
If it is the case you find the recall service was not done and if Lexus balks at doing it now (Lexus likely will perform the service if it was not done.), you may wish to make the case that it is reasonable for Lexus to make the repair now as you only found out about it just now and acted immediately upon finding out.
While you are looking you may wish to check on all 4 of the recalls at https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2004/LEXUS/LS430/recalls

Thank you to all for all the great information. Unfortunately my car was made two months after the last recall date so no free fuel pump for me. My mechanic will start to troubleshoot the problem today or tomorrow and I will let you know what he found. Thanks again.

It was the pump. Replaced just the pump motor Denso not the whole pump assembly. $250 plus $200 labor. A friend mechanic did the job. Thank you all.
