Default Evap codes, P0456 P0442

2004 LS430 138,000

I frequently an getting evap codes. Tried cleaning the VSV (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE) for EVAP cleaning last week after reading the post VSV.
There is rust on the filler neck by the gas cap. Could that cause this issue? Sometimes after filling the car there is a gas odor near the rear of the car on the outside.

Where do I start troubleshooting this problem? Saw someone here replaced their filler neck due to gas filling issues.

It seems that anything related to the evaporative system on our LS430s triggers some type of code. I have on my 2001 LS430. PO440 is triggered as long as I can remember. In my case, with a fair amount of research and some hoses and part replacements, al lroads seem to lead to the charcoal cannister, which (due to excessive cost) is not going to be repaired.. There are no emissions in my state. Since LS430s have so few modules, compared to the newest cars... tracking down the actual issue and having it be a reasonable repair can be daunting. If you car runs fine, and you don't have a state emission requirement, I would not get too involved. I've seen so many you tube issues with the same codes for our cars.
