I am experiencing a loud abrupt screeching like sound that lasts for 3-4 seconds as soon as I fire the car up on a cold start. The sound is not present on a warm start, only cold for some reason
I’ve just had the timing belt/serpentine belt/ the whole lot replaced as recently as two weeks ago. All OEM parts. From suggestions on FB they are saying it could be a pulley bearing? I’ve ordered a NSK idler pulley from RockAuto and currently am awaiting arrival of the part.
What do you guys think it could be? Would help if I knew how to link a video clip but we will have to go by description for now
Also, is this a concerning matter, should I be driving the car? I don’t really know how to investigate the matter myself and will need my mechanics assistance.
I've had an idler pulley do that on another car. Get someone to crank it while you listen under the hood and maybe you can hear where it's coming from. Could be the serpentine belt slipping.
Is it possible that you didn't use an authentic Toyota/Lexus serpentine v-rib accessory drive belt? Both Lexus and Toyota have same part number, 90916-02586, and it's usually a few dollars cheaper from Toyota. If you didn't use an authentic belt and/or if the belt is old, the noise you're describing sounds exactly like degraded rubber and/or a low-quality belt - screechy when cold and quiet when warm.
I last changed mine in 10 years ago, 87000km ago, and while it seems like its in acceptable condition, I'm going on a roadtrip so going to change it to be safe. New one arriving tomorrow.
