I can easily alter the ring gap spec for 150 shot use as well instead of a RPM build, redline at 6500 on stock cams instead of near max size ones and 8k. I'll need to stock a spare trans though and keep spare plugs in the car
do it and record lol my friend supercharged his 430 at 8-10 psi and beat on it the transmission had zero issues the only thing he did was add a cooler to it. I am pretty sure the stock transmission can handle 400 hp and tq. Just build a sleeper LS people dont ever expect our cars to gap them and are really surprised when they do.

These cars will never be "fast" but they are deffintly capable of a lot of fun with the right supporting mods.

Killed it!

Came back from an outing with a lot of heavy turns and I think I frothed the oil enough that the pickup got exposed on a turn. Got metal in the oil and 90 psi compression and it can't stay running at idle under load, blue smoke for days and all that.

Swapping another in shortly and I think I'll make a guide how do so and also post up a bunch of guides I've been meaning to write in this car and the RX

Congrats???

There is definitely something else going on here because driving like you described should in no way kill this engine. (That's assuming proper maintenance, proper fluid levels, proper engine temperature, etc)

Thanks, I'll post a bunch of pictures of the teardown and I'll try to isolate what actually failed

I may actually be lucky, I discovered my PCV hose is split severely and that may be why I'm seeing idle issues. It seems to have done this between the last oil change and now for some reason, perhaps the cold helped it fail.

I'm trying some additional additive as well to try to bring the rings and the cylinder walls back but I doubt it will work, it's restore if anyone is watching this and want to know what fixes in a bottle may actually do something in these engines (this stuff does work but is very risky to use on VVT engines of any type), I'll continue reporting what happens. If this somehow does anything (again huge doubt) I'll still be putting another engine in it anyway

What an epic journey! Excited to see the teardown and what insight that gives us.

Making a note to self to not take the LS out for an adventure like yours lol

I had a couple of the hoses under my hood crack and break. You could hear hissing under the hood. It did not affect the driving and running of the car at all. Anyway, I will keep an eye on this thread as it unfolds. I am voting sludge from lack of maintenance.

You are likely correct, if you remember when I first got this car and had the valve covers off it was not great. I think even with me at least changing oil early it didn't matter in the end

Spare is in, it's a random 130k mile engine from a local yard.

Knowing somewhat how you addressed the car when you first bought it I'm guessing you'll give the replacement engine a once over with a new TB, bearings, etc.
If by chance you choose to replace the cam seals there is a serious shortage of the procedure here on the forum. We could sure use a detailed, pic heavy, thread! That's "If" of course...

Yep it had the current timing set moved over since it was only about 15k miles and it's an aisin set, new oil seals and pan seals etc. reused many of my parts since they seemed okay/better. I have not had a reason to do cam seals yet but we will see, I will try to include them somehow.

Im surprised how relatively easy once again these cars are to work on

Well it's doing well, up to about 10 100+ runs and one max run without issues.

Hey @Striker223 any progress yet on the teardown of the 3UZ? Looking forward to seeing what you found and the condition of the engine components.
