I have it on a stand but I'm still busy with finishing stuff in my new house so it's waiting as of right now for me to be ready to mess with it. Wife gets kinda annoyed when I'm not actively using my spare time to cut marble and stuff lol!

Im suspecting it simply had a ring failure though, I'll post up everything I find when I have it apart. "New" one is doing fine so far as well

I think they are great engines, just don't let them get low on gas and drive it hard, I'm replacing mine at 240K miles because of that, dead cylinder #8

My original ended up dying from contamination in the oil from the previous owner blocking the pickup with heavy varnish/tar. I do not think it would have had an issue if it didn't go it's whole life without the oil being forgotten from time to time, if it was properly taken care of from day one I don't think anything would have failed.

This is exactly what happened with my car as well. Luckily I caught it before any damage was done. This is my thread with my experience:

Considering I have pretty much owned nothing but sports cars, you can imagine how I drive my LS from time to time. I mean, typically it stays below 4k rpm, and even 3k rpm most of the time, but there's times when I'll hammer it to redline and whatnot. It doesn't flinch. Always slapping good full synth oil in it, quality Wix oil filter, making sure all the other fluids are good, and the ole' girl just purrs along. And now that I finally have some good 19" wheels and tires on her, I can now take better advantage of the coilovers on it, though still need to replace/upgrade the bushings and get some meatier sway bars. I can say however, for a big, heavy car, she handles quite well.

Looking forward to your updates on this thread!
