I can attest to the Dayton subwoofer upgrade! Just did it yesterday and although i did a pretty hack job due to not having the best tools, it sounds quite amazing and hits surprisingly low and hard. thoroughly impressed for a $30 woofer. can't really compare because I vaguely remember the sound quality from my ML sub that blew shortly after I purchased the car from OG owner but the Dayton def seems to be able to handle heavy bass better. I may dig back in to redo the brackets and add insulation but it's just a thought because i rarely bump it super loud. i sat in my car for a whole hour playing a bunch of rap tunes like a kid with a new toy.

Jazzy..did you remove the whole backseat? Or just cut a square around the woofer and pull out directly?

hell nah hahaha would have taken me forever. I actually don't plan to keep my LS because I wanna upgrade to the UCF31 facelifted model so i didn't mind the hack job. i used a power tool to cut a square. pop the speaker mesh back on and no one knows the difference. I wish i had been more detailed like BigBoomer but I just wanted to get rid of the wretched blown OEM. it was a fun DIY job. will def do a clean, proper job in the next LS.

Just a side note. I did the Dayton sub in mine as well. When I first hooked it up, there was no bass. Less than with the blown out OEM sub. After some checking with my ohm meter I determined that the resistance was correct(12.6ohms measured, which is normal for a 16 ohm speaker). Still no bass, at first I thought the sub was faulty but after some polarity checking of the voice coils(using a AA battery connected to the coils, one at a time). I was able to determine that one of the terminals was marked incorrectly at the Dayton factory. This cause the coils to fight each other and was the cause of the problem. I switched the polarity one one of the coils to correct the problem. Bang she is rockin now. After about two months, the sub is broken in and the sound is better than ever. Sorry I didn't get any pictures of the problem, doing the repair late after a very long day at work. I wanted to share this as I had a little bit of a challenge working this out and I have a reasonable amount of knowledge of such things.

It's been almost a month since my Dayton sub install and I recently noticed that's it's sounding incredibly better after breaking it in! I'm crazy impressed with the depth and range of this 8 incher! Unless you want stupid loud bass that disturbs the peace, this is the perfect sub upgrade for our cars!

Absolutely, it just keeps getting better. Well worth the $30 and install time. Dayton also comes with a 5 year warranty. Definitely recommend as a very nice cost effective way to bring back the bass.
