Quick update so I took my mechanic dropped the pan and did the gasket and also said I needed a filter so he did both but now I provided him 4 qts of Toyota WS trans fluid. But now I’m noticing the downshifts more now. I’m not sure if this car used to downshift at all before. I did that reset where you turn the key to the ON position and hold the accelerator down but I still notice the downshifts. My car is the 2004 model so could it be the ECU reflash issue TSB TC006-04? I checked my cars service history and found the ECU reflash was done already. Maybe my mechanic didn’t put in the right amount. Another big problem is that my mechanic is really really skilled but only speaks Russian and not English.

THE ONLY WAY FOR YOU TO VERIFY THE CORRECT FLUID LEVEL IS THIS:
1. OBDII SCAN TOOL THAT HAS TRANS TEMP READOUT (obdlink mx)
2. TEMP BETWEEN 115F TO 130F
3. REMOVE OVER FLOW TUBE. FLUID IS CORRECT IF IT TRICKLES OUT.

WRONG WAYS TO DO IT:
1. INFRARED GUN
2. TEMP PROB ATTACHED TO BOTTOM OF PAN

I did this procedure recently with a high dollar Fluke temp meter with probe attached to bottom of the pan and my trans was under filled due to inaccurate temp reading of the bottom of the pan. I was approximately 6-8 degrees off b/t these two methods. and also filling the trans from the fill hole is much easier.

After verifying correct levels, I would send the TCU off to get resoldered.
