Intermittent fuel / gasoline smell in cabin. 2006 102,xxx Miles. LS430.
I got my LS430 about 2 weeks ago any I love it. It runs beautifully. VERY nice car, and super clean.
I have noticed a fuel smell in the cabin maybe 2-3 times now.
Tonight it was REALLY strong. I have to be honest with myself, something seems wrong here.
SO, now I am going to be paying SUPER close attention with my nose EVERY time I get in the car. I'll be trying to establish a pattern. Trying to nail down when, under what conditions and circumstances this is happening, and hopefully why and how to fix it.
I was driving more than usual today, maybe for a couple hours on and off, just exploring around town in my nice, newly acquired Lexus.
I stopped for dinner, we were in the place for an hour and a half or so.
I started the car, and immediately turned the heat on. I am thinking the fuel small was coming from the heater vents.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, as far as where to look for this problem and how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.
Also, if there are any genius LS430 techs here in the Tampa area, I'd certainly be open to speaking to you about looking at the car.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INSIGHT!!!

I'd start by looking at the rubber vacuum hoses - especially those on the vsv circuit (the evaporative emissions system solenoid at the top left hand side of engine) near where the fuel lines are). You will need to lift the engine cover to see them. Those hoses are notorious for going hard and cracking with age and engine heat. If they are cracked/brittle plan to replace all your vacuum hoses as they are all likely in the same old hard brittle phase.
Also while engine cover is up, with ignition one engine off look at the fuel lines for any obvious fuel leaks.
Also check your fuel/gas cap.
