Hello,
I have a 04 Lexus with ML sound system.
As many have mentioned b4 in numerous threads...the sound sucks now.
I get no bass and the fronts are in bad shape.
I know simply speaker has refoaming kits...but im not very handy. And I also know that you can;t just drop aftermarket speakers or subs into the car due to the ML special specs.
ANyway...i found these front speakers on AMazon...they claim to be OEM compatible...what do you think? ANyone try these out? Are they really install and forget? or do you have to do modifications?
I wish they had one for the subwoofer.

It's entirely possible that they will fit but whether the sound output will match the OEM speakers we won't know unless someone has fitted them.
I replaced my Sub with the Dayton Audio 16 ohm and after breaking it in it sounds OEM, but it did require some Dremel-ing of the bracket to make it fit.
Re-foaming is not difficult to do. Getting the speakers out is harder. Just be methodical and follow the video how-to's on Youtube.

Yeah, once again my MO on this site is that I will not go too far with DIY, so with my last LS I bought the foam ring kit which includes all 5 and then paid a car stereo shop to do the labor for me. All 5 speakers were good as new for around $500 labor with no parts broken. I am scared of breaking anything on a door panel as it is all very expensive. I had the car for 5 years after that and the speakers were great.

Thanks for the reply. I may do the same...ill start calling around to see if they will re-foam for me.
To save on labor... 'll even let them cut a hole in the back to take the subwoofer out instead of dissembling the whole seat.
I happen to be in the bay area...if you know anyone that can do this ..let me know.

Sorry, @peggypwr1 , I did live in LA for 9 years, but never did time in the bay area. even in LA, can't recall a stereo shop I used and loved.
Not unlike @BigBoomer , even after it all dried and was reinstalled, I still gave it 24 hours before I 'jammed' it.

Nevermind I found the kit...sorry..
Now when I take out the speakers and woofer...can I glue sponges to inside and around the speaker compartment for sound deadening? or is there anyother cheaper material?

@peggypwr1 , glad you found what you needed. As to your add-ons, ????? I am not one to mess with the original engineering, but some for sure would. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I like some bass, but I am beyond an age where I need to BOOM.
If you are talking about making these cars quieter in general inside, inquire about Acousta-Mat, or equivalent. You could have a sheet put in each door when you have the rings repaired.

Ok...i used the simple speakers kit and re-foamed the woofer and even applied the protective sealant. SO dissapointed....I really didn't notice any difference. Maybe it sounded a little "tighter"...but not what I as hoping. My Honda Odyssey and 2002 Avalon have much more bass.

Are you certain your Woofer is working? Put some bassy music on and rest your fingers gently on the cone.
If it's not moving, then either the coil in the speaker is dead, or there is a problem with the Sub channel in the Amp.
Mine had a busted wire in the feed to the coil, which is why I replaced it with the Dayton.
Also, you do realise that there is a Bass control in the Audio settings on the Nav Screen don't ya?

And yes...the bass is turned all the way up in the menu.

If the Sub is moving and you have some bassy music playing quite loud, then it should move a lot, as in over half an inch up and down.
If it's just twitching a little then it's not being driven and the amp may be dying.
Some of the bass comes from the door speakers with only the lowest frequencies being sent to the Sub.

Sounds fine to me apart from needing to get the bits of dirt out of your sub (I could hear it buzzing and see it dancing around in the sub).
This is a premium system designed for clear, faithful reproduction, not for window rattling, neighbour irritating bass.
Also, FM Radio is a poor way to test it as FM limits how much bass comes through.
Test it with a CD instead.
