Knock Sensor Repair and still problems
Hey y'all.
I recently got my LS430 back from the shop. she was in getting knock sensors, and a new wiring harness for the sensors. I got it back today and after driving it for 10 minutes, I got the P0330 and P0171 & 0174. The 17--s are new. also I once I looked under the hood there was a hiding noise from some line. I took it back to my mechanic and he said "all is good" and to take it to the dealer and have them do a hard reset on the codes and that the hissing is due to the car running lean and that it'll be fine. any help will be appreciated.

Another not my problem mechanic. P0171 means lean condition often caused by a vacuum leak in your case maybe the mechanic did not button up everything properly. Since you have the knock sensor code still there I'd cal that a failed fix but do you want to take it back to the same shop that screwed up?
Not sure what the mechanic means by hard reset, why didn't he clear all the codes and if he did and they come back job wasn't done properly. I'd put money non-Lexus knock sensors were installed which almost never work.

The same mechanic that replaced the knock sensors is the one that told you to take it to the dealer? If so, he's a hack. The intake manifold needs to come off to access the sensors so you could have a vacuum leak in a lot of places. There is a vacuum line and valve under the intake, manifold gaskets, fuel injectors if he removed the fuel rail, EVAP hoses, pcv hoses, or the intake tube could be leaking. You can find the leak yourself with a can of brake cleaner if you're so inclined.

As you already know you are running lean on both banks after a knock sensor install and still throwing a knock sensor code.
Great posts already, not much to add but I agree with members above.
Also, I would like if someone could post up a walk thru on this"Hard Reset "procedure. lol
If you want to check their work, I recommend a vacuum gauge, only $15 from harbor freight and you will know if you have a leak and something to show them.
Spraying works too like mentioned above and the gauge will give a solid visual.
PS- tech can scope the knock sensor at the ECM and compare to other bank to see if the new sensor is legit and doing something.

Did illustrious mechanic provide you with receipt detailing brand and part numbers of replacement sensors and sensor harness?
Were old parts returned to you?
How come no one who has problems with service ever posts a copy of their receipt? (with personal information redacted)

So I went to the shop today, local indy, and confronted him on the parts and all. The harness was OEM but the sensors were not… auto zone. As to the vacuum leak, a day or so I investigated the vacuum leak and found one of the lines they taped with duct tape.. smh. Needless to say, he will not be working on my car anymore. I am ordering OEM knock sensors - I didn’t know it was that pricey lord almost $400.
The mechanic was supposedly familiar with the 430 as he told me. He’s worked on my bmw’s and other Lexus’ before with no problem.

So I just got this same code today P0330 it’s for the knock sensor 2 circuit bank 2 I’m wondering if there is a difference between the knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2

Knock Sensor Nightmare
02’ LS430 Base 122k
Dad and I just replaced both Knock Sensors, manifold gasket, VSV(EGR under intake manifold) and the pigtail wires to the knock sensors) All parts from dealer outside of pigtails which we got from RockAuto.
We also own all (4) volumes of the shop repair manual. All work up to snuff and torque specs followed.
P0330 & P0335 (knock 1 & 2) failure codes still exist. Talk about wind from sails.
Codes were present prior to work and after work was completed. Going to trace harness back to
The battery/main wire harness to see if somehow that connection is bad.
Will keep forum posted.
