Default Nav problem: Disk read error check disc

My ancient Navigation finally threw an error on my screen last night on my 2001 LS. It read......".Disk Read Error Check Disc". Also, I should mention, THERE IS NO MOISTURE WHATSOEVER IN MY TRUNK. My 2001 LS is generation 2/3 with disc version 9.1 (OEM) which I installed 11 years ago. I know there are quite a few threads on Nav issues with some of the following suggestions.... 1) using a cd player lens cleaner disc 2) cleaning the inside of the reader 3) disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after 30 minutes. 4) If the reader is truly bad, replacing with a generation 4, preferably from an 05 Prius. For myself, the days of getting into my trunk and disconnecting the reader etc are over. What might my easiest and best options be to start with to see if I can revive the reader without replacing it? I understand it is antiquated and fairly useless as I do use my phone to get around anyway, but I would still like to get it repaired so that I don't have to look at the error code forever.Of course I would look for a generation 4 if replacement was necessary and I know I would need the appropriate Nav disc for that Generation 4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I decided to proceed in removing the Nav Disc to see if cleaning it might help. I noticed upon trying to eject it, it didn't want to cooperate, yet I was able to hear some mechanical movements inside. I decided to check my Nav screen and everything was working! I tried shutting the car down and restarting a number of times and all is well. I decided not to remove the disc after all and secured the reader back in place. I'm not sure what I did (possibly dislodge some dirt from the lens?) but presently things are as they should be. If anything goes south again, I'll then proceed to clean the disc (if I can get it out). For the present...We are good!
