Microphone on car ceiling, on driver side
Hi everyone, first post so forgive the formatting.
I bought this 2002 model and there is a microphone plugged on the car ceiling at the driver side. I tried to figure out what it does and searched on here. This does not seem to be standard and I wonder whether anyone knows what it should do. I searched Bluetooth on the menu but there is none. so not sure really and hope to have some guidance.
Thanks

It appears to be an aftermarket microphone, probably from a add-on bluetooth, phone or similar hands free kit. It is not factory.
The wire is probably tucked under the trim panel. You could pull it and trace it back to the source. The device may still be behind the dashboard. Alternatively, remove it and just cut the wire.

I thought it was an aftermarket add-on. I just wish I could use and understand without taking anything off. I am poor at DIY. I'll try to contact the previous owner.

Same thing was in a used Lexus I brought
As others have said, its an aftermarket bluetooth mic for hands free calling - nothing factory i.e. bluetooth menu and steering wheel buttons will work with it. Aftermarket bluetooth is often set up thru CD player audio
To use -
Turn on audio, put CD player on CD 1 (also try CD 2) and put phone bluetooth on. It should connect to your phone or you will hear "pair device" or similar

Thanks. I did try with two different phones but none picks up any Bluetooth signal. It might be disconnected by the previous owner. I just don't want to cut something that may be useful.

Hip hip hip hooray!
So many thanks for all of you guys. It was exactly as you said. You have to switch to CD before searching for Bluetooth. What a day I'm having by discovering I won't have to add hands free in the car.
Hope my other thread around subwoofers gets the same success.

Celebrated too soon. I cannot see the Bluetooth anymore even doing the same procedure as explained above. Yet, no work was undertaken on the car before this stopped working. The car Bluetooth no longer appears on the phone bluetooth list. Any idea how to solve ?

Did you press the CD button twice to get it into CD2 mode?
CD2 powers and connects the aftermarket bluetooth systems. If you select anything else it won't be available.
This is NOT the car bluetooth, but rather an aftermarket system for playing music and taking calls.
The car bluetooth can only be used for handsfree calls using the built in system which does not use that microphone and cannot play music.

I did try CD 2 before setting my Bluetooth on the phone. I even tried all the other CDs switching off and switching on my Bluetooth. We just can't see the Bluetooth of the car. Is this easy to fix? Any idea which sort of business can fix this?
