EGR Problem?
Howdy.
I have similar problems again, which happens occasionally, and is usually fixed by "Rebooting", i.e. disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes. However, it's not working the same. Now, I also have an exhaust type smell when the window is open, but not when the window is closed. It also appears to be less smelly once fully warmed up, but I'm not sure about that.. The only thing I can think of is a possible fault with the EGR system, but there is no sign of any exhaust leak type of sounds. I haven't found much info in the forums about the EGR, especially for the 2004/2005 LS430.
Any thoughts on what else might cause these problems? Where exactly is the EGR system? I believe they are a big hassle to do anything with. If it's a broken pipe, or similar, might it be possible to repair the pipe in-situ? Or is it more likely to be some other part of the EGR system?
There is no Check Engine light, nor are there any codes. It's just using more fuel, sometimes rough running, transmission not as smooth as usual, and exhaust pipes not as clean as usual. Plus the smells.
Any, and all, information and suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
