I've had this sedan for 7 years now. It has all maintenance records since new, including every service detail during my ownership. The car was rear ended today while the Missus was out on errands with our child. My wife and our daughter were fine, which was the most important part. I'm really hoping they can fix this (the damage isn't extensive IMO), but I'm afraid the insurance company will just want to total it, since it's a 2004.
I haven't been in a wreck in probably 30 years. So will have to start the process and see if we can just get it fixed. If not, then I guess I'll be in the market for a "new" Lexus.
Also, if anybody has pointers with how to deal with insurance companies and lowball offers etc, I'm all ears!
Wow, I am so sorry! Thank God your family is alright! I fear this all the time because I feel like you do about my 04. I cannot say for sure, but even at today's values I would say insurance will say "no way" to repair. I would offer to negotiate your contribution % perhaps? That was one thing I talked about when I signed with State Farm was the possibility of increasing my % of contribution to repair. They sounded like it would be possible in some situations. "Mutuals" are sometimes better for that stuff.
Please keep us informed.
Glad your family is ok same thing happened to me in June, my wife was driving my 430 and some ding dong t boned then rear ended her.
Do not except the first offer they give you and voice the car market is not a traditional market and everything is much more expensive, and KBB prices do not reflect the actual replacment costs of the vehicle. Give them actual examples with vins of how much cars similar to yours are going for.
Also if the other person's insurance fights you take the insured person to court or just get the paper work signed and sent to them, such as a summons. There insurance company is forced to pay for a lawyer and such for there client. So they would rather settle out of court then go to a lengthy expensive trail. Good luck you have any more questions let me know I will gladly help out as best I can.
Lastly if you look at your driver's side quarter panel there is a kink in it they are going to have to replace that entire portion of the panel, they are available from lexus I can get you the oem part number if you need it.
This is extremely helpful, thank you for this information and time. We sent in the initial photos and information to both insurance companies and were told we should hear something in the next two days. I will report more back then!
Get all of your records in order and start looking for comps based on mileage and condition. Look at the recent action on BaT and make sure you get a settlement that you're happy with.
