On The Topic of Whining Power Steering Pumps
I replaced my PS pump when I did my timing belt job. All whining went away. Then a while later it starting coming back (going away after the fluid got warm, as was the case before).
Then I saw the video of what's his face mentioning he had to replace the PS fluid reservoir because it was clogged. So I took mine off, noticed it was quite clogged up with gunk, and half-*** tried to clean it with some brake clean. It got sorta clean. I said screw it, and I ordered a new one from Japan (which was cheaper than ordering anywhere here for some reason).
It arrives. During install, I ended up destroying one of the OEM clamps and one of the hoses going to the original reservoir, but that's temporarily fixed now with zip ties and fuel line from Ace Hardware. New hoses, clamps, etc. are en route.
And wouldn't you know... no more power steering pump whining! Seems the pump was being starved of fluid until the fluid got warm enough to be thinner.
