First, I'm not especially car savvy so excuse possible misuse of terms, etc. Secondly, please watch the attached video to see what I'm talking about.
My disc and hub appear to be loose. I rebuilt the front end about 6 months ago and I noticed recently that there was a 'thrumming' noise at speed on the highway coming from the passenger front wheel area.
So, I took off the tire and noticed the little bit of play in the disc and hub. (I *really* think this was the case with the old ones before I replaced the hub, but can't swear to it.) Also, it's the same (as in the video) on both sides - I took the driver's side off and checked it to see if it did the same thing. I sent the video to a friend who's very car savvy and he shared it with someone else - theoretically that person is qualified - and they claim there should be no play, whatsoever. (Note: I'm not certain if this is where the noise originates.)
So, my question is this: Is the play exhibited in the video normal or abnormal?
My other question is what are common thrumming or humming noise sources at highway speeds?
Please help me out by being very 'explaining this to a first grader' in responses.
Thanks in advance!
Eric

Hi - Not a car guy here
The rotor will always have play without the nuts on. With the wheel on and the nuts, you should be able to shake the tire left and right, then up and down. If there is play that might be a bad barring. Also, if you spin the wheel and you hear grinding that could be the hub.
Maybe check the rear diff for lube?
