Default Air suspension - impact on quietness?

More than a little late asking this question, as I just purchased a LWB on the standard suspension.
I did also just find that some of the other LS460s I drove (and loved), actually had air all along (an L, and F-Sport). Oops.

There is a lot of talk about the air suspension in the LS reducing NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), but with regards to noise only what is the difference?

My assumption is it might smooth out road noise. Curious to hear from those that have owned both. I've found that it takes a road trip (or two) for me to form a reliable opinion on a car's NVH.

I've owned both. No difference in ambient noise from airflow, surrounding traffic. Air suspension may help with wheel and tire vibrations (different from noise). But new tires, balanced wheels, etc will fix that. Air is mostly to smooth out the ride. While it is better than standard, it's not that much better and the eventual cost of air repairs is quite high compared to standard. Enjoy your car the way it is.

I've only had air suspension but I just wanted to add that all sound begins with vibration, think of any musical instrument for example.

I switched from air to regular struts not so long ago. I believe, air struts are better absorbing and do reduce road noise transmitted through suspension when compared to coils.

Just came across Steve's excellent writeup on the suspension differences (among other things): https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...n-options.html
Matches my (limited) experience completely.
