When to replace suspension components?

I've had a light clunking from the driver side front suspension for a few months now. At first only during severe turns and while reversing. It's since started to occur occasionally while in drive.
The car has been looked at but the recommendation was to do nothing.
My concern is that one malfunctioning suspension component might add undue stress on other components. Is this plausible?
Hw do you determine the point at which control arms are replaced? Do you replace all at once? I do not want to hear the clunk, or worry that the car could be compromised while driving.

Yes, failing/failed parts usually start a chain reaction of woes. Several potential trouble areas, best to diag and nip it in the bud.

2016 LS460L RWD, 33,000 miles.
I'm the second owner and put about 4-5k miles on it since April.
Car is very clean and had all services at Lexus (last seen there at 28k).

At that mileage, it's possible (but not likely) the control arm is worn, especially if driven hard. But there are other things that can clunk, etc. Driving with the mechanic to point out the concern is probably your best bet. It's hard for us to guess at what the issue is.
