Default Microphone Issues

I have a 14 LS460 and nobody can hear me when I speak with them using bluetooth. I stopped by the tech center at the dealership and had them run diagnostics. In diagnostic mode, when you speak and have the system play back what it heard, you could barely hear anything (even with the mic turned up). The tech person suggested I schedule the vehicle for service.

Instead, I am thinking I may buy a new microphone and install it. Has anybody done this? If so, was it difficult? I can't find any online videos/instructions.

Also, has anybody else experienced issues? If so, what was the solution. I am using an iPhone but the tech told me that there were some old issues but they were all resolved.

EDIT: I do have ML if that matters.

I have had two separate iPhones with the same issue and my wife’s phone also has the issue. All phones work fine in my wife’s Escalade.

Darney darn darn. Barring something over the mic I'm betting it's not too hard to pull your console and put in a new one. I have an 08 LS600 and it was pretty easy when I installed Grom. If you go that route I'd just plug in the new one and try it w/o reinstalling everything. On mine it plugs into the headunit.

Look up Grom on youtube. They have an installation video for your car. Not that you need the install but they have the removal too.

Mic is a part of the map light assembly. Not super hard to get old one out and put one in (from junker, I bet plenty of maplights on ebay). Make sure to get LHD map light assy - on RHD mic is different itself apart from being mounted on the opposite site (you'll see).

Hmmm. The dealership parts department told me I could purchase a new mic for around $150. Are you saying I need to buy a new map light assembly? That is much more expensive.

Yes, it's available separately new for that money, but if you're up to some light DIY you can save up to 2/3 of that price. Up to you. I bet dealer will also charge at least an hour of labor.

Would be cool if the rhd mic made you sound like Sean Connery.

I'd take Boykie's advice of a used one from Ebay. We don't see many mics go bad, so a used one is a safe bet.

Unfortunately, yes, that was turned all the way up.

Overhead assembly on eBay $50 or less. That's probably one of the least expensive parts/repairs one could find for an LS.

I'm having an issue where the microphone is fine, but the speakers when I'm on a call are very choppy is the best way I can describe it. The sound cuts in and out constantly. I've been unable to use my bluetooth for calls for about 6 months now. Haven't been able to figure it out. Bluetooth for music is just fine.

Does anybody have the instructions on how to access the diagnostics? I can't remember the steps and I can't find them online again.

99rx - Sorry to hear about the issues. It sounds like this is a separate issue that what I am experiencing.

I did call myself from the car and the microphone is only picking up partial words. The words cut in and out on the other phone. I did order a replacement overhead light off eBay so I'll see if that makes a difference. I was pretty set on ordering a new mic only but I took the overhead light apart last night and say that the mic plugs into a board...this lead me to believe that it may be something other than a mic. The overhead light group includes everything so hopefully it will fix the issue (crossing my fingers).

You can find instructions on this link.

Be very careful what you do in this menu, I always take pictures or notes as I go along just in case.
