Default 07 LS460, oil pouring/streaming from oil housing or timing cover?

I replaced the two o-rings with rubber ones from O'Reillys, thinking it would fix it. They were slightly too large. I think its sealed, but can't figure out where it's leaking.

Using incorrect rings is a problem. Get the correct OEM rings and replace them.

I read multiple threads where they were used, but I do plan on going to the dealer tomorrow.

I just bought this car and the service history says timing cover, but I can't imagine it leaking this badly.

That said, it was leaking pretty bad before the work, only 3 qts in the engine. The lower oring was broken in half.

That's a big leak, usually those timing covers get pressure washed when they are off. here's the correct o-rings.

For testing purposes, it is OK to use correct aftermarket stuff, in this case, oil resistant o-rings. But Toyota OEM parts last usually a long time.

It seems like it is leaking from the filter housing. If the o-rings were not seated properly due to the size, it will cause a leak. Did you verify that the o-rings were thick enough and seated properly?

You were all correct. Went to dealer, bought orings, 1hr later, no leak.

OEM, it's the only way to go.

Now, VSC, ABS, and SRS errors.... yay.

Is your plastic housing cracked? Those can/do crack when overtightened or handled harshly.

Sometimes you get an oring that's a little off size but if you installed that top one like that it will leak at some point in time, using something like vasoline in the o-ring cavity will hold it in after you work it into place.

If it is the cap leaking this is an OEM aluminum part# that replaces the plastic one that I use on mine, it's little more money but I don't like the aftermarket versions with the different length tubes.

This was it. The housing was definitely leaking before (had video of it ), but this was also cracked. Which makes sense. I had two oil-streams before replacing the o-rings at the housing. Then only one stream (from the filter cap).

Thanks everyone for the help!

We all have to start somewhere learning our cars. I will advise you that this was a relatively simple repair with no computers involved. Be cautious what you tackle next as it's easy to get in over one's head.

Oh I know, former Nuclear Weapons Tech, AFM, serial project car addict..

27 cars in my life, multiple complete rebuilds. But over half ended in getting scrapped due to getting overwhelmed/underestimated the level of work needed.

I've got a full paid Professional Diagnostics Techstream sub w/ Mongoose. Fighting the P0017 now.

Recently reprogrammed my LX570 to add a factory RES and extra keys. This wouldn't have been so bad had I just been patient and gone to the dealership after the weekend.
