The cold 2-3 flare our transmissions have on the first trip up through the gears seems to be worse when going uphill. Could it be caused by low fluid level? Has anyone done a transmission fluid change and reduced or eliminated the 2-3 flare?

I've read several threads stating that even 1/2 qt low can produce symptoms. The trans fluid must be at a specific temp when refilling for proper fill. Also, many post about drain and fill trans fixing issues. Next step up is dropping pan, new filter. A bit more work/expense.

Can be caused by incorrect fluid level (too much/too low) and undercharged battery.

If you are close to or over 100k miles, it's time to do a fluid service. Why would your fluid level be incorrect? Do you see signs of leaking? Has the trans fluid ever been serviced? A fluid service is an affordable diagnostic for your concern. Also have battery and charging system checked. Suggest you do it and let us know the outcome. Hope it helps.
