I'm looking at two LS460 F Sport cars. One is a 2013 with 151k miles and the other is a 2014 with 147k miles. One I was test driving and the transmission went into limp mode with transmission pressure codes as well as a whine on startup under the car. The other is a ways away and when I pulled the service history on the car Lecus quoted a transmission replacement within the last 300 miles from similar codes and a "noise." Are transmissions a weak point in these cars or what gives? Swapping transmissions is possible however I was thinking and I realized the F Sport cars have paddle shifters and all and some other quirks to them. My question is can a transmission out of a non F Sport LS460 be swapped in without any issues or are there any differences in these transmissions? I really want a lwb ls460 with the ultra luxury package but im not having much luck in finding that car. I almost want to buy one of these and settle but what kind of nightmare is the transmission swap woth another or is it as simple as it sounds?
I don’t have an answer but will encourage to keep looking for what you want. Usually, any differences between models, awd, suspension, or trans usually means several other differences in servicing and part numbers as well as adjoining components.
I wouldn't recommend buying a car with a known transmission issue, BUT if you get quotes from reputable transmission shops that know how to work on the A760 then negotiate with your seller to compensate you the trouble of getting the transmission rebuilt for a heavy discounted price then it could work out. It might be as simple as low fluid level. It may just need a few new solenoids in the valvebody. It may just be the torque converter. Or it may need all the rings/bands/gears completely replaced.
Sounds like your car may have just been driven hard? My 460 has 315k miles on it and it's still a pretty strong transmission.

. What year is your 460 and what all has gone wrong?

Besides the items that are known to need replacing (arms, actuator, etc) have you had any other issues? I ask because you have over 300k on yours. I just got a 2007 460 for long road trips that has 143k miles on it. I'm getting the tpms done on Friday and have ordered a new trunk button since this one is melted and hardened. Besides that the car seems pretty amazing and the maintenance records have been top notch.
Not to hijack the thread, but when I bought the car I did the valley plate (was leaking coolant), then the AC condenser had a slow leak so replaced that. Now doing the valve covers because leaking oil from the HP fuel pumps. I have an engine rattle when cold that I'm 90% sure is the drivers side tensioner. The engine mounts are bad because at idle the inside of the car shakes. Let's see, the passenger side strut was blown, replaced that. I have a vibration at 80 mph that I think is a worn lower forward control arm rubber cracking. So I'll either have to replace that bushing, or get a new control arm. The upper control arms look original and don't have any notable play. The transmission has been flushed and TCU was reset but at 100% power there's a little slippage into 2nd and 3rd, but normal driving it's ok. I get like 23 mpg on the highway. Maybe19- 20 in mixed driving. PM me if you want more details. I've also posted some of this info in other threads here and there so you can search my history.
