I have another question I've found it challenging to find an answer for? How much force does it take for a new Lexus OEM Air strut to compress? With my entire body weight of 175 pounds on top of the new air strut, it wouldn't budge? Is it supposed to ? Thanks.

The strut looks extended, is it pressurized?

When I replaced my air struts I used a ratchet strap to compress them. By using a ratchet strap on the old one hardly any suspension components need to be removed. Once the old strut is out take the strap off. Then compress the new strut with the strap and install it. This is on an LS600 the air strut is slightly different. I assume the 460 can be done in a similar fashion.

Thank you I sincerely appreciate your reply.. it looks like the top ring snapped off due to the strap. I only mention because the right side came like that w/ the top ring snapped off..

If your new strut came with the ring snapped off I'd try to get a replacement.

In my pic the one with the ring snapped off is the one I was removing. It was also leaking all over the floor. If the ring is off the strut it's toast, at least on a 600. They are not meant to come off. The rubber on mine was deteriorated likely from the strut oil leaking down it. I installed my new ones with the strap attached the same way. The ring did flex a bit but no rips. You can also use 2 or 3 straps to compress it more evenly. I may have used 2 straps to install them. I don't remember for sure.

Also one of my old struts would not compress, well maybe an inch or so ( straps had trouble compressing it too). I think what happens is the fluid leaks internally into a section of the strut where it doesn't belong, thus preventing the strut from compressing. The ride from my locked strut was crazy hard. That single strut felt like it was hitting the bump stops over minor road imperfections.
