Unhappy Prices higher than expected

Unfortunately, it looks like I was wrong. Just talked to the manager at the dealer, and he says the new prices are as follows:

LS460 Base $64,900 (fully loaded $85,000)
LS460L Supposedly only comes fully loaded - $89,900
LS600hL $115,000 (only comes fully loaded)

He said Lexus is trying to reduce the number of packages available to make it easier for them to produce.

Also, he said the new LS600hL will have 140hp more than the LS460. So, that equates to about 520hp. It will get 35MPG in town. 460L will get about 20-21 in town.

LS460L and 600hL will have AWD standard.

Of course, I should say that this is only the dealer talking and they are frequently wrong this far out before production. I thought I should give this disclaimer since autospies will likely steal this post for use on their website (as they have done with my posts in the past).

He also had an interesting tidbit on the new ES. He says that all of the current-generation LS technology will be in the ES and that the ES will be quieter on the highway than the current LS.

wow cool info there drink. regardless of whether it's real or not, it's still great effort by you, thank you!!!! anyway, here's my thoughts... (not good i guess)

1) 115k for ls600h loaded. shoot, that's going to hurt. i am not sure if that's a good thing though when it's so close to the price of a s500 loaded (and not too far from the s600 as well, considering the price). that's really expensive
2) ls600h and ls460l ONLY comes with awd? if so that's really sad, especially when a lot of people don't need awd, especially in places like cali where most of these cars will fall into anyway.
3) ls600h and ls460l only comes fully loaded, it blows completely. coz' i think still a lot of people want more room AND also the 3rd middle seat in the back. with just 4 seats, it's going to be hard imho. more "standard" options on them i can understand (compared to normal 460), but only fully loaded that's weird. especially now on lexus.com it says the 4 seat package is optional for 460l?

i just need to continue hope that it's not true, coz' if everything is true, maybe i will just get the ls460 fully loaded (with options i want)

Thanks for sharing the great info but hmm...when was the last time a dealer actually knows anything accurate 6 months before a new model goes on sale?

That said, those numbers he claimed are amazing!! The 460L with its sheer weight carrying STANDARD AWD, LWB and a V8 gets 20-21mpg AROUND TOWN?? That's truly astounding, considering my ES300 is rated at 21mpg around town. Totally blows the competition off the door! Of course, high-end luxury buyers may not care much about gas mileage, but this is still impressive from a technology standpoint.

520hp for the LWB hybrid is amazing too, considering how they usually detune the gas motor for their hybrids (I'm kind of disappointed by how much they detune the 2GR-FSE in the GS450h BTW). The "hybrid premium" on this hybrid seems to be around $20k, as opposed to the usual $4k on other Toyota hybrids. So the electric motor in the Ultimate LS has got to be a super powerful one that can warrant its high premium.

Again, the dealer's words can be correct but we shouldn't count on them too much until near the on-sale date. Remember how much the prices those dealers were reporting vary before the New IS went on sale? The range was as wide as the galaxy and none of them turned out to be correct.

So true. But I'm sure there will be plenty of rumors and speculation until the official pricing is released.

All this is speculation. Just seeing the mgr say the car will make 35mpg shows he has no clue, b/c the GS 450h will make mid to high 20s in gas mileage.

Lexus does continue to price upmarket, it also is still cheaper than the Germans. All eyes are on BMW and Benz.
I see it like Sal does price wise and strategy wise. Lexus has NEVER chased sales. the products are SO DAMN GOOD, even when they climb in price, they sell like hotcakes.

I see the LS 460 starting at around 58k
And a loaded LS 460L around 75-80k

As for the Hybrid, no more than 90k.

The day for the 100k Lexus IS NOT here yet

I won't be surprised if they make AWD standrd for at least the LWB model for Canada, but for USA, I think that's kinda unnecessary, particularly for Cali/southern states. Lexus really have to think of offering more flexibility in option packaging for their high end model, the Germans are way better in this respect, you can almost get any option combinations you want as long as you're willing to wait. Having choices to get almost exactly the spec. in the car you want is a part of the luxury equation too, they really should be more open to more flexibility at least for their highest model with the LS.

If the above quoted price are correct (or close), I think the starting base price of around $64K is OK, but it's really on the high side for a LS600hL, I do still think it's still a relatively good deal because they're really giving you 760/S600 hp or better (again assuming the above info is accurate) for 750 / S500 price, but if it' only comes fully loaded at $115K, it may be more than some people is willing to pay for.

Exclamation

Like I said, this was from the dealer and they are not always accurate. But it's interesting to see what the internal buzz is with actual Lexus staffers.

However, you should figure he knows SOMETHING about the price considering that he is taking deposits and has a waiting list. If I am going to plop down $2k, I usually want to know what it is I am buying. Without pricing info, he couldn't let me know accurately.

Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Did you just say a $30,000 ES is going to beat my 01 LS430 Ultra in every way?

I don't think anyone ever said the ES is gonna beat your LS with a $30,000 configuration, mink92890.

It'll take a $50,000 ES to beat your LS430 UL in "most" ways if my prediction is correct. What it still won't beat your LS, rest assured, are the sheer interior volume, and the smoothness and torque achievable only with a V8.

hahhaa, well, in another thread it's said that the new es will beat the current ls, and then the new ls will set a whole new level
