But also if you notice that the GS450h only makes 339hp, weighs more than the direct competition by about 200-300lbs, and it is still able to achieve faster accleration times than a 550i(360hp), M45(335hp), E500(302hp). The HSD's are actually THAT powerful!! So a lower than average 420-450hp range might be justifiable.

Lexus will probably only tell us that it produces more than 400 hp and will get to 60 in less than 5 seconds at the NYIAS, then they will come with exact figures that match yours

e.g. gas engines has a flat hp curve from 250hp at 3500rpm + 100hp eletric motor at 3500rpm = 350hp combined, that's how I thought that was calculated

But you're right, since the RPM at which the peak combined horsepower occurs is different than the RPMs at which peak horsepowers of the two different motors occurs, my formula can't be very accurate, though I don't think it'll be far, either.

I think these 'HP' numbers for gas/electric hybrid drivetrains are not very meaningful. They probably have more to do with not making the insurance too outrageous than reality.
The reviews on the GS450h all talk about how awesome the PASSING power is. That's not something you really see on a dyno.
So a combo # of 420 or whatever for an LS600h could still be a BEAST in the real world.
Don't get too hung up on the numbers guys.
