Not many shops have the right equipment to remove/install those stiff/heavy sidewalls of runflat tires. They serve a great benefit, but i'd prefer a donut in lieu of runflat tires.

How much better has your ride become?
Been spending so much time on the spots car forums (DC and FChat), I didn't think about the ride issue.
Being that our cars have no room for spares, runflats are a good alternative, but are a compromise for performance; those were the lines i was thinking along. The ride in our cars would be stiff without them anyway, so ride quality isn't as much of a concern.
Good point, nonetheless.

Since it looks like even the LS600hL with it's batteries comes with a spare, it won't seem to make sense that the LS460 would come with runflats to save space for the trunk.
Runflats are particularly unsuitable for the LS since it's suppose to ride super smooth, I certainly won't want the runflats with their stiff sidewalls to compromise that.
Yes the SC430 owners including me, couldn't be happier when they switched to non-runflats, & I think it would be the same for the 3GS owners with runflats too.

I assume that there is no problem switching from run flats to non-run flats, right? They fit the wheels and the the wheel well, etc? If the car didn't come with a spare because of run flats, then if you switch you are left without a spare.

No problems. I'm now running non-runflats without a spare with my SC430. I'm relying on Lexus roadside assistance in case something happen. After that expires, I'll probably get the spare tire package for the car.
