from mbusa website, they say the s class is 205 inches.

somehow i have an impression i read somewhere that the ls460l is going to be around 202 inches. maybe someone can correct me (forgot where i read that)

The LS460L is 5150 mm. in length, that's equivalent to 202.75 inches.

The LS460 is 5030 mm in length, that's equivalent to 198.03 inches, so the LS460L is almost 4 3/4 inches longer.

Regarding "ego" and "pride of ownership".. I'm wondering how much "prestige difference" the public will perceive between the 460 and 460L .. when just casually looking at them.

If this "public perception" is of importance, then I don't see how anyone can make an intelligent buying decision without actually seeing and comparing them.

My dealer told me that maybe I don't "NEED" the L. Well, of course I don't "NEED" the L. I don't even "NEED" a Lexus. A Geo will get me there.

But, shamelessly, I admit that "public perception" is of some (dare I say "considerable") importance. So, if when looking at them, you can't tell the difference, then my cheap skate mode sets in and I don't want to waste money. (I wouldn't get the L for just a slightly smoother ride. I'm sure the straight 460 will ride just fine.)

Jimm - not sure how you can know without a big survey, hehe, but my bet is the L will have significantly more 'impact' than the non-L. If a Bentley were a foot shorter, it wouldn't be so impressive.

Remember when .. MANY years ago if you saw a Sedan DeVille or a Fleetwood .. you NEVER had any question about the size difference!

NOW - with the L being only 4.6 inches longer - it makes you wonder if the "perception difference," to an average viewer, is going to be infinitesimal.

well that "minor" 5 inches is going to bring you a lot already. for anything longer i will just rent a limo myself

bottom line is getting something that you feel the best in

Yes, that 4.6 inches all goes to the rear seat leg room & that will help a lot already, & you can spot the difference between the long & short versions' exterior very easily . . .

why? because the 750Li makes the 750i feel like an e-class. thats why. I am 6'1 and the 750i is OK, but the Li is so much better for a trip to vegas.

Why does it bother (any of) you anway?

And in this day and age, how do you know who is "just a regular person" ?
