I think this question has been raised before, I think it's better if they offer this option on the new LS, but it's not the first time a flagship does not have this option offered in the lower models.

The 2003 Mercedes E class was already offering the panarama roof as an option(& the lowly C-class coupe also), but the S class does not have this option until the recently redesigned one comes out for the 2007 model year.

panorama roofs have never been extremely popular options for lexus. they quit making the one for the RX. the only way you can get it on the ES is with the ultra pkg and i believe most people simply take it cause its part of the pkg, they arent buying the ultra pkg cause they want the roof.

They haven't figured out that mounting two monitors on the headrests with a panoramic roof is better than one screen down the middle.

So I guess most higher priced Toyota & Lexus models should have panorama roof as an option too ...

I think the Scions had them first to work out the bugs, and now that the design has proved successful they are now on the ES...that's my guess.

i wonder if it has anything to do with insulation and quietness. i would imagine that with the panorama design, the car might be a bit noisier than without. and of course, with the LS, quietness is top priority without a doubt

Possible, but it's only an option, people can still choose if they desire more quiteness or the panorama roof.
I have test driven the E500 with the pano roof, while it's nice inside, I do think the pano roof is a negative for the looks of the car though.

i actually think it looks pretty cool on silver bmw with the pano roof (black). looks pretty nice. but then of course, on black cars, you don't see the difference

who knows, maybe another yr or two we will see it

I love the looks of it, I think I would really like to own one someday but I guess it is not high on buyers lists of features they want or the 7/S/LS/A8 would have had them by now.......

It does add weight.

IIRC, I think I saw an '07 S-class with a pana roof?

yep, the s-class has it.

I don't think it has a lot to do with sound... I remember asking if the RX was available with the pano roof and a lot of people said that there were problems with the first batch of RX330's that had this option, apparently there were leaking issues and rattling, etc.

but I agree, they should make this an option like the s-class and it sure does add class. I wonder if it has anything to do with because the RES is mounted on the roof? therefore, wires need to run through... as opposed to on the headrests like on the s-class.
