New LS460 Commercial: fantastic!
OK, who saw the new Lexus ad on "Gray's Anatomy"? They show a silver LS460L from the side, then -- as the car begins to accelerate -- they switch to a helicopter shot from overhead. The copter tracks the car as it flies down the road, but the car appears to be driving across desert, runways, then outer space. At the very end they pan back -- which reveals that it wasn't a CGI effect at all; instead, Lexus actually PAINTED at least 1/4 to 1/2 mile in a photo-realistic fashion to create the effect. Absolutely one of the best commercials I've ever seen, even discounting for the bias I undoubtedly have by owning the exact car/color combo in the advertisement...

I am a collector of Lexus commercials, as some of you know. I have seen 2 LS 460 commercials so far--the "Champagne APGS" ad and the "Times Have Changed APGS" ad...still looking for the "Highway 8-Speed AT" ad...
A good number of Lexus ads have been uploaded to YouTube, others I saw at Ad-rag.com which costs around $5 for one month membership.
And somebody has posted a screencap of the champagne ad...

Yeah I saw the ad - it was neat. I'll bet you they didn't actually paint that much highway - I'll bet it's still a CGI effect - they just 'green screened' the color of the road and placed the graphics under the car.
With that said, I wonder what gear the car tops out in? With 8 years I'd think the last gear or two would be such high OD type gears that you'd lose speed instead of gain speed toward the end of the top speed run - kinda like how the Corvette and Corvette Z06 both reach their top speed in 5th gear (out of 6)
