Default 14.0 in Dec. Road & Track

The Dec issue of R&T has a road test of the new LS. It went a 14.0 @ 102 mph.

They basically like the car, I think...it's sort of an oddly written article. It seems as though they mostly talk about things anyone on the board already knows and a minimal amount of space talking about the driving of the car. Also the author gives the impression that he doesn't really beleive the car is all new. Very strangley written article indeed, IMHO.

They do say it's very, very quite, does not handle all that great, but acceptably for a 4500 lb car, and is extremely isolated from the road.

It seems to me that road and track & car and driver are all about sports sedans. All they want to review is the Corvette and don't seem to have as much appreciation for the luxo cruisers (unless it is an M or AMG version of course).

Also, I think that many of the writers have a bias going into their reviews and an expectation of what a car should be good at from past experience.

14 sec flat is not bad at all!! In other words sub 14 seconds is clearly possible.

Wow, very impressive!

lexus.com says 0-60 in 5.4s and quarter-mile in 13.9s. Still waiting for a mag to verify the claim.:-\

Notice that it ran those times at a temperature of 101 degrees. I don't believe R&T corrects for atmospheric conditions - at least they didn't used to. If not, pretty impressive.

Do you think there would be a difference at colder temps? The car isn't forced induction...?

I don't think there would be anything significant.

that's what i thought too, but i remember in another thread i got bashed pretty bad for saying temperature don't have huge effect especially on NA cars

i don't know, i would like to see the difference too, constructively with statistical results, not just theory

Don't get me wrong, I bet there might be a difference, but not something to change that 14 into something magical.

Wasn't the 2nd gen LS a 16 sec?
LS430 I think is around 14.7 or so.
Haven't we almost doubled the power and added two gears?

Temperature does have an effect. We are talking about fraction of a second, blink of an eye here. Atmospheric pressure also influences. Even the direction of the wind, and of course the biases of the tester.

LS 460 may easily be undr 14 secs in some serious person's possession.

but like i said, don't tell me theory, i know in theory cold air will make the car faster, that's theory and that's about it. but i want facts, reality is where we all live in. to what extend air temperature is affecting the performance of the car? if between 30 degrees and 100 degrees, a car makes about 0.2sec on 1/4 miles, that's no difference. but if it turns into 1 sec difference, we are talking
