Were you guys talking about the Ritz Carlton at Marina Del Ray ? We went there last year for lunch before going to LAX & their valet had the car keys locked inside our rental car & they had to call a locksmith. I gave them the keys, one attendant put them on the dash & another slammed the door, afterwhich the door locked itself

nah, that place wasn't that good at all. my wife and i went there to check out for our wedding, it was just ok

the one i went to was in monterey / carmel. that one is a lot nicer and i think a lot more expensive too

amazing that they just keep the keys on the dash? i thought they are supposed to take the key away and store them elsewhere?

Paranoid. Around here and where ever I go they valet big lux sedans all day. Park it yourself if it means that much to you, but if it isn't exotic/smart key don't count on that option.

A friend from high school is now a manager over at a local hotel (he sure went far in life) and tells me how much they've trashed cars. They only trash the fast ones, that arent self parked or up front.

Here's a tip. If you really are uncomfortable, ask them to let you park it up front (assuming your car is nice enough) keep the key and just pay them instead of the hotel. Everyone wins. We do this every time we go out on the exotic runs. The valet kids are more than happy to pocket 20-40 bucks.

We went to that one because it's very close to the airport car rentals where we had to return the car.
Their Sunday brunch is pretty good though.

I am sure they do, but I didn't see exactly how they screwed up, that's just what we're told. Good that they didn't make us miss our flight . . .

depends on the place. someplaces where there are more stingy people, the valet will be overjoyed with 20dollars straight to their pocket. other more stuck up valets may not do it untl you hit 40-50. generally at those places your car is safe anyway; people only pay the 40-50 to be seen.

Absolutely, there was a Lexus commercial that made fun of this. A lady barricaded her ES using shopping carts. Lexus' message: It's ok, we know you like to protect your car--after all you earned it!
