Voice Recognition
#16
Is anyone having trouble with this?
When I pull the voice switch, the computer says "Say a Command" I say navigation mode, it doesn't know what I am talking about. When I say Climate Control, it doesn't know what I am talking about. I said Point of Interest the other day and it told me about a French Restaurant. I asked the service manager and he said it has to learn my voice. I thought that was just to brush me off.
The only thing the voice seems to recognize is when I say Phone. Then I say phone by name and then the name. That seems to work great. I noticed that the nav knows my voice for the phone by name feature since you need to input the name using your voice when setting up the phonebook.
I also had trouble finding a Wal-Mart in New Jersey. I know it is there but the navigation could not find it. Only when I started using the "Show me a List" feature did I start to get anywhere.
I would like to use the voice recognition part.
Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone suggest something?

I've had no problems when using voice commands on my IS350 (5th Gen). As others have said you a) have to speak in a normal tone of voice and b) the commands have to be the ones that the system recognizes. Both my wife and I tend to speak with very flat accents so that probably makes it easier for the system to work.

After reading these msgs it only brings grin to my face. I am a tech freak and on my LS430 although the "Help" screen showed the commands you can use for the voice command it did not show all the commands, I did call the Lexus Support Service and the specialist e-mailed me a copy of all the commands the car can recognize. I spent hours and hours (during the course of my ownership) trying to figure out this voice recognition and I never was able to do it accurately. I will say 20% success rate. I remember I will say, show golf courses and the sytem will say "System is showing Fast Food Restaurants", I will say, show gas stations and the system will say "System is showing golf courses". LOL
I did try a system on my friend's BMW and their voice recognition is so freaking accurate that it puts Lexus to shame. Only on that subject...
Did try the LS460 VR and it is pretty much the same way. Was doing a demo to a friend of mine and we both laugh because it did not work.

Here's something I put together and posted previously; this gives you all the voice commands in a format that's easier to access on the road. Note that I do NOT accept responsibility for anyone who drives off the road while trying to read a page full of voice commands...

I left another post bashing the voice command on the navigation system... In reality I was refering to the last car, the LS430, I never had good luck on that system. I felt the same way with the LS460 but today I realized when I check the Quick Guide that some commands have changed, I did follow the commands per the Quick Guide and I am happy to report that I had a 90% success. Used the address mode and follow thru, and the complete address was entered. No problems. I had to type a list (2 pages) in a table in MS Word with bigger font so I can keep it in my car, therefore, when ever I have some time to play, I can get the list out and try to memorize the commands.

Then in that case may I refer you to the GS - Third Generation forum, they might have a better idea of how to help:

Also, there are at least 2 posters there, although they haven't posted for a while, who are from the UAE.
