Thumbs up CNET gives LS 460 L Perfect 10.0

CNET editor's review

Reviewed by ; Wayne Cunningham
Reviewed December 7, 2006

The Lexus LS 460 L is the best car we've seen. We can't put it any more bluntly than that. It checks off all the tech boxes, then goes and adds some new ones. The company's flagship sedan is a genius piece of work, combining technologies that contribute to a comfortable ride with the ability to tear down the roads and take the curves. And it does it all with amazingly good fuel economy, given the size of this thing and its competition.

Lexus redesigned its LS flagship for the 2007 model year, and gave it a bigger engine, more gears, and an expanded array of technology in the cabin. The automatic transmission gets eight gears to shift, more than any other production car. And this Lexus is the first car in North America to get Toyota's self-parking technology, which was previously released in the Prius for Europe and Japan. The LS comes in two basic styles, the standard LS 460 and the long wheelbase LS 460 L version. We tested the latter.

Although the LS 460 L gets a long list of options and standard technology, it's not a kitchen sink kind of car. We like how everything is integrated. We like how the car drives. We like the usability of the technology. We even like the self-parking feature...

Very good review.

They are not a car company, but CNET has been very reliable in the past when reviewing things.

I couldn't have said it better.

CNET's review focused on the technology side of things. They liked the NAVI system and the HDD setup, and they felt the APGS worked pretty well...the LS is a technological tour de force and it's integrated smoothly...they confirmed it in their review!

A video should be up soon...I don't recall CNET often giving out perfect 10's. The IS got 9.4 Spectacular, GS 450h 9.0 Spectacular, GS 430 7.7 Very Good, S-Class 9.7 Spectacular.

LS 460 L 10.0 Perfect. Wow.

They had a separate slide show from earlier (press preview)? And then they blogged about getting an LS 460 L for a drive down the CA coast to LA.

And the review is now being carried on ABCnews.com

I remember a lot of CNET articles get carried on other sites, they must have some kind of licensing agreement.

Like I said, CNET is a respected site and everyone refers to them.

If ever you are looking for something electronic, go to their site and check it out. The are tops.

I don't see any of those people (Stig or Picus) posting in this thread to call them out You aren't posting anything that hasn't already been said in this thread are you? How could they have 'forgotten' if they aren't even posting here?

I don't see anyone here claiming that CNET is a tour de force on automotive reviews, and I certainly don't see any reason to poo-poo a good review of the electronics on the LS460.

I'm disappointed that Lexus doesn't make air suspension standard, or at least so for samples submitted to car reviewers. NONE of the LS460L reviews so far was done with the air suspension or even the Touring Package equipped. Most competitors already have air suspension standard or available on even their midsize sedan offerings, while Lexus is still limiting its use only to the very top-end models.

LOL

I drove LS460l the other day and IMHO, it is the best car out there for people who do not enjoy the rush of high speed driving.

btw, i like CNET a lot but it's the right place for the car review for the car nuts. They review only in terms of electronic gadgets in the car, and they would give Arial Atom -10 if the review that car. I meant in that way and I am sorry if my language comes out a little harsh harsh. I guess I should stop drinking Kool Aid.

For a more realistic review see January 2007 Car and Driver comparo with four competitors same-class models...Jaguar, Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz. The 460 L comes in last...because of long stopping distances, small trunk, soft in roll and squishy tires. With stopping distances of 207 feet compared to the others (164-182 range)....inexcusable. The only category the 460 L scores better in is sound level and is equal to the others in observed fuel consumption. Me thinks Lexus still has a way to go in the "The Persuit of Perfection".
