First LS460 mileage report FWIW
I've had my LS460 for two weeks, and have 697 miles on it. 325 highway miles were put on three road trips (60–80mph) and the rest in short-run, light city traffic (not much lead-footing). Cumulative mileage so far: 24.9 mpg. Though I didn't buy the car for its fuel economy, it's nice to know it doesn't guzzle, either.

Thanks for the report Hartmonstr, I am impressed with the 24.9mpg, I was only getting 18.7 on my LS430. On this one I am getting avg 19-20mpg but I have done my driving 100% in the city (415 miles so far) so I am sure once I do a long highway driving, I will get the same results.
BTW: Love the pictures, nice lens.

You cant compare it to LS430 driven in different conditions, of course. Cars should be compared only in same conditions.
What car did you drive before and what mpg did you get? Now that will be great info!

I also have a VW Passat W8, which has an eight that produces 115 hp less and is about 800 lb. lighter than the LS460 but usually gets about 16mpg city, 22 hwy.
I'm not saying I'll get 24.9 mpg for the life of the car, but considering it's a brand new engine I'm hoping it won't go down much (unless my right foot does!)

I am not happy. I have 1,200 miles on the new swb LS460, and I am averaging 20.9 mpg overall. Although I have a fair amount (I'd say 40%) of the driving in what I would call city, the majority is on the highway or interstate at about 60 mph. I am hoping for better as the car breaks in, but if it doesn't improve I will bring this to the attention of the dealer and see what they might be able to do about it.

The new LS truly does have class leading mileage . Some of you may not care, but the LS competes in the prestige luxury segment, where bragging rights matter *a lot*, and in this segment it's all about excess and extravagance. Sure, you don't need or may not even want such great mileage, but it's nice to brag about having a premium luxury 380HP full size sedan that weighs over 4000lbs yet achieves above 20mpg easily.

Actually you can. When it was stock, my '03 got 26.7 on a 715 mile interstate trip with 3 people, luggage, and traveling 75-80 MPH most of the time. On the return side of that trip it got 25.x MPG, and I suspect that the difference was that we spent more time off the interstate looking for food, changing the baby diapers, etc.
The modifications that I've since made (larger wheels and tires, exhaust, lowered) seem to have knocked almost 2 MPG off of it, but I haven't really been able to give it a good equivalent test.

You may not have actually lost 2mpg, if the rolling circumference of your rims and tires is bigger than stock then your car odometer will go slower, making you think you're doing fewer miles per gallon.

Definitely something to brag about in the book club though.

pretty good to me for a 4.6L V8. You may gain a little more as
the car breaks in more, but the dealer will probably tell you there is
nothing wrong with the car...

A highway data point - coming back from a recent ski trip (over 700 miles) I got 28.7 mpg on an all freeway route. I was actually getting 29.2 until I ran into some pretty significant traffic delays.......

Report update: ten days after I started this post, I now have about 1100 miles on the car. Mileage to date is still exactly 24.9 mpg with about a 50/50 mix hwy/city driving. It goes down considerably in the city, and up on the highway, but these are real-world results so far.
No complaints so far, except one thing. The seat heater on the driver's side doesn't extend the entire length of the seat bottom. If you move the driver's seat bottom forward to extend the chair length (not the chair position), you get a cold strip on the back of the seat at the very part of your butt that needs the heat the most.
Maybe Lexus designed the seat this way to keep us snow bunnies from falling asleep at the wheel...
