hi everyone,
our lease on the gx is up in april and we are between an LS 460 SWB and an RX 400h. I was wondering if you can tell me how well of gas mileage do you typically get for city driving, for highway driving, and overall. Thanks a bunch.

but he already has a honda pilot...which pretty much covers the SUV category
ive thought out a pretty easy way to tell what mileage your going to get. for both vehicles, the highway mileage is pretty much on the spot, you cant really get more, and if you have a steady foot, you can get as much as it says. City driving, expect 2-3 miles off what the EPA will say. Either way, you will get better gas mileage in the RX obviously.

750 is going to replaced in july when the lease is up, maybe with a 650.
the gx gets driven the least
and the pilot is off at college for most of the year.
we want something more economical than the gx which both cars cover. we didnt like the noise on the hybrid. the rx 350 is 19/24. so i dont know which will get better gas mileage. i was wondering what you guys get on the ls.
highway mileage will be used to go visit college or instead of the 750 to go to work (62 miles each way). city will be used for errands. the gx after 3 years has almost 16,000 miles on it. thats how little its driven due to the fact that the primary driver cannot sit long because of back problems. so reactions (with gas mileage please) or on the support of the seats would be appreciated. thanks,

I have an RX and LS. The LS is obviously so much more comfortable and just feels great. We use our RX as our beater mainly (taking the dog places, bad weather, hauling things, etc). I would clearly go for the LS.

Gas mileage is definately better for the RX400h compared to the LS for city and overall. I didn't ride the cars hard; I just drove as usual in typical relaxed weekend mode. How much better? Well, in traffic (stop and go crawl at about 30 mph average), you'll definately get high 20s with the RX, and high teens - low 20s with the LS. You'll definately save more gas with the RX400h in traffic.
However, if cruising at 75 mph, you'll find that both cars guzzle gas in the low-mid 20 mpgs.
Functionally, the RX provides enough comfort, luxury, and gas efficiency to make it a worthy ride. However, the LS is "over-the-top" with its comforts and luxury, with relatively great gas efficiency for its power and size.
In all, I don't think you should be worrying about gas mileage if you get these types of cars. I would worry more about functionality and overall cost...

I don't own them, but I have test driven them for a couple of days each.

the primary driver wants to be economical, and wants a smaller car. the problem is a small car like an IS doesnt work for helping with college transports. lx470 is way to big. she doesnt wanna go bigger than a gx in width. and btw about the prius joke...at one point she actaully said she wanted to drive it.
im more for the LS. its a question on how her back feels in the car, since she has a very bad back and cant sit for more than 15min. we will have to see. thats great gas mileage combined. thanks for the results so far. more r appreciated.

Perhaps a Rav4/Highlander (Hybrid?) is more practical and functional. Please don't laugh...
But honestly, you can get either one AND the RX400h for the price of an LS460....

rav4 doesnt have a navigation system which is a must for her. the highlander hybrid is a possibility, but id prefer to stick with lexus. i think the ls has enough room for college stuff with the pilot between the 18ccu ft of space in the trunk and the back seat, and its just as fuel efficient on highway as a 400h. the rx 350 is in the mix to. but i do appreciate the suggestion
