The NY Times video of Calvin Trillin parking the Lexus460 is hilarious. Obviously, the car can park itself, but it's embarrassing. (It finished about 3 feet away from the curb). In other words -- that it can do it at all is marvelous, but it doesn't do it very well.

OK, Lexus is the first car out there that tried. Years from now we'll all be letting our cars park themselves, and some of us will remember that Lexus was the pioneer.

But the self-parking shouldn't be a big selling point just yet.....

you put it in position on the screen where you want it to park... if he put it to park 3 feet away from the curb, thats how it parked...

The self-parking plays no part in my consideration for the new LS, but yes they will refine it more in the future, though I still won't care for it from a practical standpoint, it will always be just a neat feature to me nomatter how good they make it.
