Started my car today and when I started to backup the mirrors started knocking. I looked over and there was frost all around the mirror part within the casing.
It seemed that the mirror started to point downwards because I was in reverse and the frost prevented them from moving all the way down.
I had to get out of the car to fix the problem. Here in NY it wasn't even that cold but this looks like it may be a major problem for the winter.
Anyone have any suggestions to prevent this?

The mirrors are heated and are switched on with the rear defroster. If you swich on the defroster, the mirrors should work in a few minutes.
I have had no problem with mirrors with snow and ice on them so far. And we have snow everyday! If it happens again I think you should get the service people look at it.

Dfiorito,
Probably was the rain from Friday night that froze, since the temps dropped. I assume your car is not garaged and the water inside the sideview mirror housing had froze, hence your issue.

Yes - temps dropped like crazy.
We are spoiled here in New York. Warm weather right up to this weekend.
I did the unexpected, I read the manual and NOW I know what those defroster buttons are for. I hope they heat up as fast as everything else in the car.
Thanks for the replies
