does your ls460 have nav?

on the 3gs and 2is, that slot is for the nav dvd to go in (nav dvd unit)

ah interesting. i wonder where they put the nav dvd for the ls460. now that i think about it, the 2is don't have that, the nav dvd for 2is goes behind the head unit

will see if i can ask the tech next time just for the heck of it

I thought there is no NAVI DVD for the LS 460, it's a HDD-based NAVI system...?

It still has a Nav DVD which is in the top of the NAV/ Entertainment unit just above the display screen. If you want to watch a DVD, you must remove the Nav DVD first.

Not on my 460L. It's an HDD NAV unit and therefore no DVD required or needed. If I want to watch DVD, I don't have to take anything out.
Sorry, if I misunderstood your responce.

Just a guess, but they'd need some way to initially load the map software to the HDD and to load updates.

On my '03 LS the DVD is in the trunk and doesn't take up valuable dash space. Since it's so rarely used, this seems appropriate.

Yes, the updates are done by attaching a cable to a port under the steering wheel area, at least that's what the Lexus tech told me at the LS 460 L preview--similar to how they do Lexus Personalized Settings...only the update is connected to a laptop.
