Default Simoniz coating on a leased vehicle

It looks like I'll be the proud owner of a Smokey Granite LS460 in a few days! They are calling tomorrow to discuss some kind of Simoniz coating they can apply to preserve the paint job.

Would anyone recommend this for a lease? If I don't get it will they remember in 3 years and be super-picky about the paint job when I turn it in?

Typically, leases can be returned at any dealer as I understand it, so their memories of this won't matter, not to mention 3 years is a long time in car dealer terms (high turnover).

That said, the Simoniz I have heard of is nothing but an overpriced coat of wax, so I would most definitely not waste money on it.

Enjoy the car!

Hi all you lucky LS owners,

I have an ES350 and had the wax done last May by the dealer when delivered. I have since had the car "clay bar-ed" and re-waxed several times. Mine is black and it looked crummy on the day after I got it. The guys at the dealership that apply this wax are not trained detailers in most cases. It's not too hard to detail a brand new car to be ready for delivery, especially in the late afternoon or evening. It takes real skill to keep a car looking nice over the long haul.

The idea that any car wax can last anything like a year is questionable and $500.00 to $1500.00 sounds like a rip (now) to me, even if they say that they will do it for you every year for 5 years.

Based on the responses, none of the members has actually applied the Simoniz System 5 to their vehicles.

If there anyone that can speak with first hand knowledge about this product?

I've actually ran a multitude of new car dealer detail departments in my day, and can honestly tell you this stuff is overpriced- but I have used it on personal vehicles and it works. It's not a scam, but I wouldn't suggest that it's better than any other wax.

Most of the dealerships I've been involved with used the Simoniz System 5 paint protection on their purchases. The parts department pays nearly $110 for the product- it's not the Teflon or the shine you're paying for- its the warranty. This product was actually guaranteed by Traveler's or the Hartford insurance groups, for a certain number of months against paint stains, etching, etc.

That said, new car buyers often pay upwards of $300-$500 for this sealant. Before leaving my last job, I had in my possession nearly 30 separate packages and could only get $25 each on Ebay. Still have 4 or so if anyone's interested. PM me.

*Since I am selling these privately any warranty is null an void. The only other sealant I've used personally that works better is Collinite Insulator #845. It's cheaper, roughly $15 for a larger amount, but difficult to hand polish out.

Don't do it - waste of money. Here's everything you need to know:

1. No wax or sealant will last more than one year, and that is really stretching it.

2. The dealer is counting on you NOT coming back annually. Even if you do, you're paying a large amount of money for one of the prep guys to put a coat of this crap on your car. They will NOT polish out any swirls before hand, so at best the'll fill in swirls temporarily with the oils in the sealant.

3. You could use the money you were going to spend on this to hire a professional detailer once annually, and it would be a much wiser use of your money.
