Default Autoweek Long Term Test

Autoweek is starting long term test of 460L with the luxury packages for an msrp of about $86K. First analysis is quite positive and they particularly note the exceptional sports car like braking performance of 60-0 in 113 feet. The test car has the standard 18" wheels and brakes and does not have the Touring package with the larger brakes. Pretty impressive braking performance. The only negative comment so far was on the slalom performance being a bit slower than a few competitors.

WOW, so now this test shows 113 ft braking huh? very interesting. that's some very good braking from 60-0! i wonder what the larger brakes in the touring package will do

That's very impressive That should dispel any myth or doubts about the LS460's braking distance, if it's not a pre-production model equipped with crappy tires that's tested.

So far, I don't think I've seen the sportierTouring model being tested with a detailed write-up yet, would really like to see one . . .

I agree that the braking is very good and always wondered why people said that it wasn't.

By the way, I had a true test of the handling yesterday when a garbage can was hurled at my car at 75mph on the highway. A semi ran it over and threw it out the back where I was trailing. I only had one hand on the wheel at the time but swerved while braking and missed it. I was very happy with how the car handled. When I swerved I could feel the weight of the car but I expect to feel the weight of the car this large. The important thing is that I safely avoided the garbage can. Very nice

i wonder what a pre-collision system would say/do in that situation (assuming you dont have one)

Good question. I think it probably would have detected a panic stop given how quickly my foot moved off of the gas so the brakes would be ready for full force. Also, I didn't notice but the seatbelt probably tightened.

Lexus really needs to stop sending preproduction cars for magazine reviews.

60 - 0 in 113 feet pretty good, i just wonder how many seconds it took. Could still be better.

One thing this would of been a nice option on the LS ...

Lexus for sure could of figured out a way to make the cabin still soundproof with a semi-glass roof.

well the ES is a step ahead in that direction, although i also wonder how sound isolation is on the es350. that car isn't that impressive in terms of road noise to me

I bet something else tightened as well!

I just ordered my LS 460 with the Pre-Collision and Dynamic Cruise Control. It will be interesting to see how that system reacts in a situation like that. I got the option because I reall wanted the Dynamic Cruise Control. I drove a Q45 with it a couple years ago and was so impressed that I swore I wouldn't buy another car without it.

My LS430 has laser cruise control, and I agree. I'll never buy another car without it.

After laser (dynamic) cruise control, regular cruise control seems very crude and limited.

Those that haven't experienced it, however, rarely see the true value of it and often just see it as a gimmick.

The new 600hL takes it one step further (a la Mercedes S series) and keeps the dynamic cruise control active down to a speed of 0....
