I have heard many people say turn the car off while fueling but many people leave them on (especially on cold days). Is it OK to leave your car on while filling her up?

seriously, just turn it off but just push the start button without the brake. THen you can have the heat on and the radio as well

Your gas tank may not register properly or accurately report the miles left in the tank if you do not shut off the car, other than spontaneous combustion, that is the only risk

I don't think I have ever turned the engine off when filling my tank on the '04LS and on the '07LS. I have never had a problem, a engine light turn on or the attendant to ask that I turn it off. It has always filled completely and shown a complete fill on the gauge.

People do it all the time in Mexico (we have obligatory full serve here). In fact, one time I was at a Pemex near San Luis Potosi in central Mexico and of all things an LS430 from Texas was in front of me, and the station attendant filled the guy up and his engine was on (as I was talking the driver at the time) and I didn't see a CEL or anything else.

If the vehicle is functioning perfectly such that there are no stray electrical surges/sparks and the exhaust system is operately properly and at acceptable temperatures, and the gas station pump is in excellent condition such that there are no fume or heaven forbid, gasoline leaks, then absolutely fuel with the engine running. In the highly unlikely event that there is a problem with any of these systems, well then there is a potential for a fire or explosion. Happens more frequently than most people would imagine.
BTW, its also a good idea to touch the pump with your hand before pumping the gasoline to discharge any static electricty (particularly in areas like the northeast in winter).

If you are asking this question then gas is too CHEAP since it seems you have money to burn. It won't hurt the car to keep it running, but are you the kind of person that leaves the car running while you go into the quickie mart to buy beer or cigarettes (assuming someone else is in the car)? Even if you are Warren Buffett why not do everyone a favor and just turn it off. Why waste gas? Surely it can't be that onerous on you to turn the key.

I haven't tried this on my LS460L, but on my LS430 fueling with engine on caused the "check engine" light to come on. Each time required a trip to the dealer ro reset the warning light. So now I turn the engine off when fueling.

Back in the good old days, drivers left their cars on all the time. Back then, re-starting an engine had its challenges. I don't remember gas stations blowing up everywhere...
