Default Lexus LS 600h L launch delayed til Late July/August

Lexus LS 600h L launch delayed
April 30th, 2007

If you’re waiting to get in the driver seat of the new Lexus LS 600h L this June, we have some bad news for you. Toyota has delayed the launch of the car until late July or early August without giving a reason. Mike Michels, a Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. spokesman, said the June time frame given to the press in March was an estimate.

“This is the most sophisticated vehicle the company has ever produced and, of course, very limited volume,” Michels told Automotive News. “For this reason, our routine final production quality checks are even more rigorous than usual.”

Lexus has already received 1,650 orders for the Lexus LS600h L, of which it expects to sell 2,000 units of annually. The car will start with a base price of $104,750. Some limited-edition LS 600h Ls have already been sold through Neiman Marcus, whose representative said the cars would be delivered to customers by late July or early August.

The Lexus LS 600h L is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces 430 horsepower while still delivering fuel efficiency equal to the combined fuel-economy ratings of V6 all-wheel-drive mid-sized luxury sedans.

Hmm, there were indications that it was already delayed past spring last year, so it is now 3 months away. Hopefully that is all the delay.

Hopefully it's all the delay like you said enigma, but I'd rather have them release a perfect automobile rather than one that is plauged with problems in the first year (Mercedes SL R230).

Also this reminds me of the RX 400h delay at its launch.

Why is Toyota making these announcements?

I thought Lexus was going to be it's own Brand with these new cars coming out.

How is Lexus supposed to shed the Toyota mentality when they keep showing that they are in charge?

The name Toyota and Lexus should never be mentioned in the same sentence as far as I am concerned.

When I got my first Lexus it was a ES300. I remember everyone saying it was a Toyota. Now I have a LS460L and they still say it is a Toyota.

Give me a break.

I guess Mercedes and BMW get a real kick out of it.

Yup, but these days one can respond, well Toyota is the #1 car manufacturer in the world, and #1 in Consumer Reports.

Still I agree this is supposed to be a Lexus press release; the RX 400h delay was Lexus announced from what I've read.

Probably didn't like the actual numbers that the hybrid was outputting (i.e mpg) so probably trying to see what went wrong.

If you read the recent reviews, the mpg is significantly improved over the LS 460 in terms of average consumption.

If I have to wait an extra few months to get a better vehicle that I expect to keep many years, it's a few months well spent.

Default Typical..........

People we have all seen this before .......... with Every Toyota and Lexus Product Release ......... The HH was suppose to be in Feb 2005 happened in May 2005 (Or was it 2006???) but it was 3 months and Yaris 4 months there, Tundra 3 months there .. RX 400h 4 1/2 months there.......... It's the same with every release and I think they do it on purpose to judge the public demand and such... ( How many Pre-orders .....ect). There are what 350 units left out of the first 2,000 LS 600hL ........ who's going to get them???? And....... I agree that it should be a Difference between Lexus and Toyota ....... I guess someone in Japan doesn't agree!

Oh well I'll just sell em as we get them ...........

If Lexus does it on purpose then it's illegal - it's a restraint of trade, trying to lock up orders (against competitors) for products you know aren't going to be available when you say.

But I doubt it's deliberate - Toyota, I mean Lexus, has aggressive timetables if 'all goes without a hitch' but of course things happen, and so delays happen. Could be anything from a parts supplier having trouble or insufficient inventory of parts to be ready for launch, or the training program hasn't rolled out fast enough or needed to be changed, or any of a zillion other things. Not only is the car incredibly complex but so is any launch like this.

In the real world, the LS460 average a combined 20+ mpg. How much does the 600h get on average?

I accept you idea but, then aren't they just as guilty if they say June in the first place. Would it not be prudent to say September and move it up if the chance arrives ........... instead of always back. And if this was the only one then Kewl........... But it's not. It's the next in a long line and the customers hate it....... I as a Sales consultant look like crud when I get "The latest News" report it and then have to eat my words since they have another set-back that draws it out another month.

I'm just saying that I find it strange that each new release has a enevitable delay of 3 to 4.5 months????

Here: http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroa...s-ls600hl.html

More telling is that our observed consumption with the LS460L was 13 mpg, whereas the LS600hL returned 20 mpg during its week-long visit with us.
Motor Trend observed 19 mpg average for the LS 600h L, in line with C&D. Automobile magazine did not give any data, other than EPA 2008 projected figures: city/hwy average 21 for LS hybrid, 20.5 for LS 460 L.
