I own a 2004 LS430 with NAV and about the only thing I don't like about the vehicle is that they deleted the stand-alone compass versus my old 2003 LS430 that did not have NAV.

I HATE going thru the NAV to get the compass. That being said, my father in Florida just traded his 2006 LS430 without NAV for a 2007 LS460 with Nav. And he is FUMING that they deleted the stand-alone compass!

Did Lexus REALLY carry-over the same stupid mistake? Particularly galling since it has to cost next to zero to not delete that little electronic compass display.

I love that my wife's Jag constantly displays the compass in the rearview mirror.

I didn't even notice this on my test drives. I'm not gonna like this when I get my LS 460.

its very simple. On the corner of the nav screen in Map mode, you do get a little compass. It doesnt move, but it gives you the + sign and it takes only a few seconds to figure out what direction your in.

If you press on the compass, you have the option of having the map fixed North or have the arrow fixed north.

So you are confirming that there is no stand-alone compass like there is on the non-NAV cars??

No no no. I am asking for a confirmation that the current LS460...the 2007....not your old 2002 LS430....still does not have a stand-alone compass.

Is that correct?

Why do you need a 'stand alone compass' at all if you have nav? Why do you "HATE going thru the NAV to get the compass."? Do you just not like nav systems at all?

Well if Daryl's that upset about not having a compass without nav, he has few options.

Daryl, you might also consider getting an aftermarket rear view mirror with compass in it. Most are made by Gentex.
