Tint Questions
I am thinking of adding a small amount of tint in my LS merely for privacy.
Here are some questions:
1. How do you choose a tint company? Should I just ask my dealer?
2. What % tint would be considered light? I don't want a limo tint just a tint that will allow you to see into the car but can't make out faces.
3. I live in PA where tint is illegal on the front windows. Does anyone know if you have a medical reason (AKA, my wife had a slight case of skin cancer) if it can be considered legal?
THANKS!!!

I have medium tint (Llumar Titanium Platinum Plus) on all my windows. It has a lifetime warranty and is a high quality film. You cannot make out anyone inside the car from the outside and it also does a good job of reducing the interior heat in the car when parked. Here is a link to their website and a link to their approved installers.

Here's my car with tinted windows:
Color of car: Verdigris Mica
Tint: The top of the line 3M produces (life time warranty)
Percentage: 35% with more than 95% UV protection - here in WA 35% is the limit.
Install: Done by award winning shop called Precision Tinting.

Three other questions I thought of:
1. What is the approximate factory tint in the rear windows of the RX330?
2. Does 35% tint mean that 65% of the light goes through?
3. I like 35% but it looks like PA law might even allow 30%. Does anyone have 30%?

Mine was $300.
1 - On the RX330 I believe it isn't a tint film, but the color of the glass. I think that's 25%, maybe 20%.
2 - Yes, but you won't feel it. The film blocks UV rays like crazy, it's awesome.
3 - Don't know if 30% is available, usually from 35% they jump to 25% or 20% - I've seen 20% on black cars and it looks good. Unless it's a white car, I wouldn't go darker than the darkest hue you can perceive on the body of the car. That was my approach and by coincidence I am within the legal limits, 35%.
EDIT: Keep in mind that if your car's interior is dark, the tint will look even darker. My car has cashemere interior which is light, if it was black this 35% tint would look even darker.

That's not a problem in BC, and in fact some tints here are downright outrageous. But just for the sake of common sense, I'd like to keep mine to a standard that balances UV blocking, heat reflection and visibility, all of which are conflicted in this case.

2. 35% means 35% of the lights go through. (20% is darker, and 5% is limo)
3. 35% looks good and the best if you want to see out @ night pretty well. 20% is better if you don't want anyone from outside to see you

I recently tinted mine 35%.. Looks great. However, I did the windshield as well (50%) and with the black interior, it is DARK...
Has anyone else tinted the windshield ? I am debating having it removed, but am not too sure....
thanks,

Hey neighbor... 5% is Limo; 20% is perfect (most factory SUV's); 35% too light (only looks dark in photo)... MD, VA, & D.C. 35% is legal, I assume it's same in PA. Most tints fade after a while (very minor), so I recommend 20%. I had 20% on all my previous cars, never got pulled over (for the tint). If you drive nice enough cars, like ours, cops will leave you alone. I paid $150, because I brought them tons of business, but average should be 180 to 200 bucks for a decent job.
